Pets on Wheels ? Elvis the Wonder Dog

Lately we have been noticing more than ever that our fellow riders have found new riding companions?their pets! Well we wanted to get a little insight from our furry friends on how they feel about riding so we went straight to the source. Check out this interview with well known canine biker, Elvis the Wonder Dog, to get his thoughts on the open road, the perks of riding, and gas station hot dogs.

Q: How, when, and why does a dog like you start riding?

A: Dog? Oh yeah, sometimes I forget.

Well, when I was little, my sister Cilla used to ride with dad. ?At first, I didn?t understand what she saw in that loud contraption, but I got tired of sittin? at home waiting, only for her to come home with strange treats on her breath. So, right around the age of one, I gave it a try. At first, I hid in his coat, but within a few miles I was standing on the tank, navigating. The rest, as they say, is history.

Q: What is your favorite part of riding?

A: I tell dad that it?s all about being in his company, but pretty girls bearing gifts of food are a definite plus.

Q: Where is your favorite place to ride?

A: I guess I?m like anyone else; it?s not really about the destination. I like long trips in good weather. ?Rain and snow kinda suck, but its all part of the experience. Also, riding with other bikers is a plus.

Q: Aside from dogs, what other pets have you seen riding?

A: We had a friend that had a bird and one time I saw a rabbit in a milk crate on the back of a scooter. In both cases I wondered if they were company or lunch, but given that they were both almost my size, I?ll take the company.

Q: What tips you would give to fellow canine riders?

A: Relax, lean with your human. Stay behind the windshield and enjoy!! Oh yeah, and beware of those gas station hot dogs, sometimes I think these bikers don?t have a very keen sense of smell.

Q: Do you think more people should include pets on their rides?

A: Well, just like some people shouldn?t ride, it?s the same with pets. If they don?t do well, then leave them at home. For instance, my sister Lucky is not a great riding dog. She does it when she has to but says she would prefer to walk, LOL. Sister Cilla, on the other hand, loves to ride, and is a bar hopper from way back. However, she gets kinda cranky after a couple hundred miles or if she has to stay in a hotel overnight.

Obviously, dad has never discriminated against other species, but he does exercise good judgment in determining who, among us, is up to the challenge safely.? Clearly, I am special. I have ridden through 18 states, including route 66 from LA to Chicago, and a good portion of Mexico.

At the end of the day, you just need to know your limitations, and those of your biker. It has to be safe!!

?Watch out for motorcycles, dogs, and bikinis. Keep the Shiny Side Up!!
