"Happy Endings" (Wed., 9:30 p.m. EST on ABC) introduced a rather unusual annual tradition the gang has been enjoying for years. Well, most of them have been enjoying it. So much so that they apparently go out of their way to make t-shirts, and consider it the official beginning of spring. The "it" in question is a huge blow-out fight between Brad and Jane.
The problem this year was that Brad and Jane simply weren't fighting. Every time the gang thought something was going to set them off, they instead managed to brush it off like it was no big thing. But realizing that for whatever reason this was something their friends needed, Brad and Jane decided to fake the sixth "Spring Smackdown" for their benefit.
But the fake fight, and fake getting away from one another into the arms of their friends, just didn't sit right with anyone. It still didn't feel like spring was coming. Luckily, an open patio door led to a real fight. But this time, rather than simply sitting back and enjoying the fight, the gang came together to instead help the couple realize the silliness of it and instead make up. Maybe they'd all grown up a little bit this year.
Special shout-out to "Bear Max." It was a bit abrupt, and seemingly out of character considering he'd just recently started a serious relationship that was developing nicely, but it was so funny it was almost forgivable. For the transformation into Pooh Bear alone, just go with it for the laughs.

When it comes to leveraging the arts to stimulate the economy, the diverse regions of Maryland present different challenges and opportunities. In 2001, Maryland pioneered a statewide arts and entertainment district program that empowers Maryland localities with a set of tax incentives to encourage artists, arts organizations, and other creative enterprises to locate in a targeted area.
?In 2001, communities were eager to use arts ?to attract new business, revitalize their downtowns, and create more livable, sustainable neighborhoods,? said Theresa Colvin, Executive Director of the Maryland State Arts Council. ?The A&E District Program is a proven tool ?for supporting jobs and enhancing the quality of life in local communities through the arts.?
Gateway Arts & Entertainment District
Six Arts & Entertainment (A&E) Districts began operation under a 10-year designation in 2002. Since then, 13 additional Maryland A&E Districts have been added and designations for the Gateway and Silver Spring A&E Districts were recently granted 10-year extensions.
This month, the arts council released a study that found A&E Districts supported more than 1,600 jobs and nearly $50 million in wages on average every year between fiscal 2008 and 2010. The study also shows that the districts supported an average of $147.3 million in state gross domestic product (GDP) those years, and a total tax revenue impact of approximately $37.6 million during the same period.
?Each A&E District has a unique identity,? said Pamela Dunne, A&E Districts Program Director at the MSAC, ?rural and metropolitan districts have very different assets and opportunities, needs and challenges, but both can benefit from A&E designation.?
Cambridge Arts & Entertainment District
Rural districts like Cambridge or Frederick often use A&E designation incentives to complement historic preservation and community revitalization plans, create affordable live and work spaces for artists and establish marketable tourist destinations. Metropolitan districts like Bethesda or Baltimore?s Station North are often home to large cultural institutions that anchor redevelopment, jobs and other opportunities in the cultural sector and beyond.? All of Maryland?s A&E Districts boast festivals, public art, galleries and performances that brighten and unite communities.
?A&E districts are lively and desirable places to live and work which creates a ?spillover effect? that attracts an array of businesses that are not necessarily related to the arts,? said Tina Benjamin of the Montgomery County Department of Economic Development.
Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District
Two new A&E districts are under consideration and four districts?Bethesda, Cumberland, Hagerstown and Station North?are up for designation renewals ?this year. The program will continue to help more Maryland communities harness the power of the creative sector to maximize local economic impact. The recent study shows that beyond improving quality of life, A&E Districts are powerful economic drivers in Maryland?s modern economy.

ALTOONA, Pa. (AP) ? A man accused of dealing drugs had his luck run out when he won $2,500 playing blackjack at a casino near Philadelphia.
Altoona police say 34-year-old Mateen Johnson was arrested Saturday because he had to produce identification to cash out his winnings at Philadelphia Park Racetrack & Casino in Bucks County. Casino officials learned Johnson was wanted for drug offenses in Altoona and called authorities.
The Altoona Mirror (http://bit.ly/AfbcNp) reports Tuesday that Johnson told police he expected to be arrested soon and was trying to win enough at blackjack to make bail.
Online court records don't list an attorney for Johnson, who was wanted on separate drug delivery charges filed last year.

Reginald R. Harper,?58,?Hammond, Louisiana, and Troy A. Fouquet,?43,?Covington, Louisiana, were charged?in a one count bill of information for conspiracy to commit bank fraud.
According to court documents, in approximately 2004, Harper, the former president and chief executive officer of First Community Bank,?Hammond, Louisiana, loaned in excess of $2 million to Fouquet, a real estate developer, or one of a number of companies?Fouquet owned. The purpose of the loans were to purchase parcels of real estate; develop them into subdivisions; and built houses on them, eventually to be bought by prospective home buyers who would obtain permanent mortgages to finance the purchase. The permanent mortgages would also include monies to pay back?Fouquet who, in turn, would pay back the original loans made by?Harper on behalf of First Community Bank.
According to the bill of information, however, beginning in 2005, it became difficult for?Harper and?Fouquet to identify qualified home buyers to obtain permanent mortgages. As a result,?Harper and?Fouquet developed various methods to avoid reporting the delinquency on the loans made by Harper, on behalf of First Community Bank, to?Fouquet and/or his companies.
One method used by the defendants, according to the bill of information, included?Harper making "loans" to the prospective home buyers to make it appear to the permanent mortgage lender they were trying to qualify that the prospective home buyer had more funds on hand than they actually did.
Another method employed by the defendants, according to court documents, was to use nominee loans or straw borrowers to sign up for new First Community Bank loans, authorized by Harper, the proceeds of which were then utilized to pay off the original loans made to?Fouquet and/or his companies.
Finally, another method used by the defendants to avoid reporting the delinquency of these loans, according to the Bill of Information, included?Fouquet presenting?Harper with insufficient checks (i.e. a check not backed up with sufficient funds) and?Harper accepting them, crediting the loan payment in First Community Bank's books and records, despite knowing the check was insufficient.
The fraudulent methods employed by the defendants, as set forth in court documents, led to a false call report (a report of First Community Bank's financial health), which impacted an application undertaken by the bank to receive funds from the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), a program administered by the United States. Ultimately, according to the bill of information, when the wrongdoing employed by the defendants was uncovered, First Community Bank suffered severe financial losses.
If?Harper and Fouquet are convicted of the one count charged against each of them, the maximum penalty they face is up to five years' imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and a $100 special assessment, respectively.
U.S. Attorney Jim Letten announced the charges.
U.S. Attorney Letten reiterated that a bill of information is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendants must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
"Rather than recognize losses on bad loans, Harper and Fouquet concocted a scheme to create and use sham loans to hide delinquent, non-performing loans," said Christy Romero, Deputy Special Inspector General for SIGTARP. "Instead of living up to his fiduciary duties as the president and CEO of the bank, Harper concealed the true status of the loans from the bank, regulators, and the U.S. Department of the Treasury in the bank's TARP application. During the financial crisis, many bank executives faced losses on non-performing loans, but did not choose to commit bank fraud."
The case is being investigated by agents from the Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (SIGTARP) and agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Haynesworth was taken with the 15th overall draft pick in 2002 by the Tennessee Titans, where he spent seven seasons and developed into one of the NFL's premiere defensive tackles and earned Pro Bowl honors in 2007 and 2008.
He then signed a seven-year, $100 million contract with the Washington Redskins ahead of the 2009 season but failed to perform up to expectations.
Following several run-ins with Redskins coach Mike Shanahan and issues about conditioning, Haynesworth was traded to the New England Patriots last season but was placed on waivers after six games.

If Ted Rollins is unhappy that I'm reporting on his divorce case, which he brought to the county where I live, he has only himself to blame. The crumbling Rollins marriage was a private family matter back when the couple was developing "irreconcilable differences" and, according to Ms. Rollins' complaint, her husband was rather flagrantly committing adultery.
But once either party filed a lawsuit, it became as public as any other divorce record. Chad Essick has to know this. After all, he got through law school at Campbell University, so he probably isn't stupid.
Why then is Mr. Essick making wacky statements on Ted Rollins' behalf? Desperation, maybe? Heck, I don't know.
I do know that the business about a "private family matter" is not the only sign that Ted Rollins and his lawyer are out of touch with reality. Let's examine a few key issues in their latest missive. (You can read the whole thing at the end of this post.)
* Threats to cut off family support to Sherry Rollins and the couple's daughters, Sarah and Emma--I reported this in a February 3 post titled "Has CEO Resorted to Extortion In An Effort to Silence Our Reporting?" I reported the threat because Sherry Rollins called me and told me about it in detail, and I tape recorded the conversation. Ms. Rollins had reported similar threats to me on probably a dozen occasions over almost two years' time.
* Ted Rollins' status as a deadbeat dad--I've reported this in multiple posts, and public records--plus a videotaped interview with Sherry Rollins--show that it's true. Sherry Rollins stated, with a camera rolling and under no coercion from anyone, that Ted Rollins had failed to pay more than $200,000 in court-ordered family support from South Carolina. It still hasn't been paid, and that makes Mr. Rollins a deadbeat dad. It's fact.
* My communications with Sarah Rollins, and the threat of a restraining order--Mr. Essick is topping himself with this one. He states that I have been in contact with Sarah Rollins, and Ted Rollins vows to get a restraining order against me if I contact either of his minor children again. A fact: I was "in contact" with Sarah Rollins because she called me at home. Let me repeat: Sarah Rollins called me, not the other way around. Is Mr. Essick going to seek an order to prevent me from answering my own phone?
It's interesting that Ted Rollins would voice such concern about the welfare of minor children. I have information about how he has treated minor children who were under his care, and it's not a pretty story. More on that coming soon.
Mr. Essick says my posts contain "false and misleading" information, and he demands that I take "certain corrective action" in the form of a retraction. I made it clear that no retraction is forthcoming. Here is my full reply:Mr. Essick:A response to the latest in your ongoing series of threats:
* The threats to cut off family support were communicated to me by Sherry Rollins in a tape-recorded conversation. She called me about them, not the other way around, and she has made similar reports to me on probably 8-12 occasions. I've never initiated a conversation on such topics; she has always brought it up. My posts on this subject are true, and there will be no retraction.
* Public records, and videotaped interviews with Sherry Rollins, show that Mr. Rollins still owes a significant sum of money that he never paid, based on South Carolina court orders. Thus, he is a deadbeat dad. My posts on this subject are true, and there will be no retraction.
* Sarah Rollins contacted me via telephone. She initiated the communication. That is fact, and Mr. Rollins should learn the facts before making threats about restraining orders.
* Sherry Rollins has not provided documentation to show that one word of my reporting is false. Whether I continue to report on this subject is not her call--it's mine. This also is not a "private family matter," as you should know. Rollins v. Rollins is a matter of public record, litigated in taxpayer-funded courts, and Ted Rollins is CEO of a publicly traded company that conducts business from coast to coast.
Finally, public records show that you are not a member of the Alabama State Bar, and yet you continue to send law-related communications to an Alabama citizen. You appear to be practicing law in Alabama without a license. You also have repeatedly made threats against me, hinting at legal actions that you cannot lawfully take. This appears to be a violation of legal ethics at both the state and national levels.
Your unlawful and unethical actions will no longer be tolerated.
(a) In his representation of a client, a lawyer shall not file a suit, assert a position, conduct a defense, delay a trial, or take other action on behalf of the lawyer?s client when the lawyer knows or when it is obvious that such action would serve merely to harass or maliciously injure another.
Essick is threatening a SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation), which is the kind of tactic to which a low-rent, cowardly law firm would resort. Is that what Poyner Spruill is all about? The answer appears to be yes.
Essick's claim that Rollins v. Rollins is a "private family matter" makes him come across as someone who knows he has no serious position other than to flail at the air.
It's ironic, however, that Essick raised the issue of Ted Rollins and minor children. That is a subject that merits very serious attention.

A California restaurant has settled a federal discrimination lawsuit filed by a black businessman who said he got racist receipts that referred to him by the N-word.
According to court records, lawyers representing Mark McHenry and Landmark Steakhouse in Newport Beach,?Orange County, agreed to a stipulated settlement on Feb. 2, the Orange County Weekly reported.
Terms of the settlement were not announced. The case had been scheduled to go to trial next month.
Stuart Shanus, one of the attorneys who represented McHenry, told msnbc.com on Tuesday that both sides are prohibited from discussing details of the settlement. An attorney for Landmark Steakhouse did not immediately return a?call for comment.
According to court documents, McHenry, a?Chicago native,?began patronizing the restaurant, in the affluent, predominantly white neighborhood of Corona del Mar, shortly after moving to Orange County in 2007. He visited two or three times a week and was a regular at the bar.
McHenry said Landmark Steakhouse employees occasionally made comments to him like ?black is the new white? but he let the comments go.

On Dec. 5, 2010, he visited the bar twice -- once in the afternoon and again in the evening. The next morning, he said, he reviewed?his receipts and was ?appalled? to see ?Mc Stinky? followed by the N-word in the space designated for customer name on one credit card receipt.?On a second receipt the customer name was listed as ?Mc? followed by a combination of the first half of the N-word and the four-letter S-word profanity for excrement.
A few days after the discovery of the receipts, court documents say, a bartender at the restaurant, who is white, called and sent several?text messages to McHenry profusely?trying to apologize.
In one voicemail,?the bartender?said: ?Yo Mark. Hey it?s [NAME WITHHELD]. Give me a call when you get a chance man. Just wanted to apologize for that tab, dude. You know we were totally jokin? around.? In a follow-up text message, the bartender said: "I know I made a big mistake by crossing the line. I have a family & mortgage that depend on me.? In another text message on Christmas Eve, he said: "merry christmas! hope to see you soon. we miss you! please forgive us for being stupid. its not the same without you there. luv u bud!"
Mario Marovic, a partial owner of CDM Restaurant Inc., which includes Landmark Steakhouse, said in court documents that he does not "discriminate against any group of people on any basis whatsoever." According to court documents, the bartender was fired a week after the lawsuit was filed last March.
It's not the only case involving minority customers receiving racist restaurant receipts.
In December,?a Chik-fil-A restaurant in Irvine, Calif., fired a cashier who issued receipts labeled ?Ching? and ?Chong? to two customers of Asian descent.
And in January, Papa John?s Pizza apologized?after an employee typed ?lady chinky eyes? on a receipt to an Asian customer at one of its New York City locations. The employee was also fired.

EDM's road to the mainstream limelight hit a high on Sunday (February 12) when David Guetta, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, Deadmau5 and, most surprisingly, the Foo Fighters joined together at the 54th Grammy Awards to pay tribute to electronic music.
Introduced by host LL Cool J, Chris Brown made his way through a sea of audience members, donning his best Run DMC gear. Leaving the dancing to the crowd, Breezy crooned to the tune of his David Guetta collaboration "I Can Only Imagine" as the DJ/producer jumped behind his turntables set. But the star power didn't stop there: Lil Wayne appeared shortly after to spit his verse of the duet amid the flashing neon backdrop and jumping fans.
Once the song ended, smoke filled the air and the other side of the stage lit up to reveal the Foo Fighters. As they previously revealed to MTV News, the rock group left the dancing to the pros and stuck to what they're good at: rocking out. Marking their second performance of the night, the band performed their single "Rope," before transitioning into Deadmau5's glow-in-the-dark light set.
At the time of the performance, the Foos had already nabbed four awards, including Best Rock Song, Best Rock Album, Best Hard/Rock Metal Performance and Best Long Form Music Video. MTV News recently caught up with frontman Dave Grohl, who confessed that there isn't much of a gap between the Foos' rock and the electronic genre.
"Well, Deadmau5 is maybe the only EDM artist I know because we did a bunch of festivals over the summer, and for whatever reason, he would be headlining over there while we were headlining over here," Grohl said. "I guess people thought that our audiences would split, but our audiences are compatible in a way, because what he does ... rocks."

LONDON (Reuters) ? British police threw Rupert Murdoch's scandal-hit News Corporation into fresh turmoil on Saturday by arresting five senior staff at the top-selling daily The Sun in a probe into journalists paying police for tip-offs.
The move is part of a wider investigation into illegal news gathering practices that has rocked Britain's political, media and police establishments and last year prompted the closure of the Sun's sister Sunday title, the News of the World.
Saturday's arrests came after the company passed information to the police, a move that infuriated staff and sparked talk of a witch hunt amongst journalists by a proprietor who previously celebrated their work.
Murdoch is due in London next week and is set to meet staff, a source familiar with the situation said.
Four current and former Sun staff had already been arrested last month, and the latest detentions raise questions about the viability of Britain's best selling daily.
News International chief executive Tom Mockridge sent a memo to staff saying: "I have had a personal assurance today from Rupert Murdoch about his total commitment to continue to own and publish the Sun newspaper."
Sun editor Dominic Mohan said he was "as shocked as anyone by today's arrests" but determined to keep fulfilling the paper's "duty to serve our readers".
The source said the arrests included the Sun's deputy editor, picture editor, chief reporter and two other senior staff. Police said a serving police officer was among a total of eight people arrested on Saturday and later released on bail.
The source said a defense ministry employee and a member of the armed forces were the others. The ministry declined comment.
MONDAY EDITION PLANNED
The current staff who were arrested in January have been suspended by the paper, and the same fate is likely to await those arrested on Saturday.
As no production staff have been arrested, the company should be able to get a paper published on Monday. Staff who were not due to work over the weekend volunteered their services to make sure the paper was produced, said a second source close to the situation.
Both sets of arrests resulted from information from News Corp's Management and Standards Committee (MSC), a fact-finding group the firm set up in a bid to rescue its reputation.
The MSC is working alongside up to 100 personnel from top law firms as well as forensic advisers and computer experts searching through more than 300 million emails, expense claims, phone records and other documents. Some 15 or 20 police are embedded with the team.
According to people familiar with the work of the MSC, the project could take at least another 18 months. Piles of paperwork that cannot fit in the offices are stored in warehouses at another, secret location.
"The MSC provided the information to the 'Elveden' investigation which led to today's arrests ... News Corporation remains committed to ensuring that unacceptable news gathering practices by individuals in the past will not be repeated," News Corp said in a statement.
Murdoch shut the hugely popular News of the World last year after a public outcry over revelations that its reporters hacked the voicemail messages of celebrities and victims of crime.
He had hoped the newspaper's closure would draw a line under allegations of malpractice, but the arrests of Sun staff have renewed speculation over the future of his newspapers, with rival publications warning of a "crisis" and "staff in uproar".
DAMAGING
Steven Barnett, professor of communications at Westminster University, London, said Saturday's arrests were particularly damaging because they included senior current staff and were not related to historical actions by former employees.
"This is huge. It will raise some very serious questions about the viability of the Sun .... You then start to ask questions about the extent to which News Corp, and Murdoch in particular, may want to start getting out of newspapers altogether," he said.
Murdoch also owns Britain's Times, which this year admitted that one of its former reporters had hacked an e-mail account, as well as the Wall Street Journal and New York Post among a host of titles across the English-speaking world.
The octogenarian also has publishing, television and film interests in Asia, Britain, the United States and elsewhere.
U.S. authorities are stepping up investigations, including an FBI criminal inquiry, into possible violations by Murdoch media employees of a U.S. law banning corrupt payments to foreign officials such as police, law enforcement and corporate sources.
London police said 40 people had been arrested in connection with three police investigations into illegal news gathering practices, but that no one had yet been charged.
Allegations of widespread phone hacking at the News of the World prompted Britain's parliament, where many accuse Murdoch of wielding too much political influence through his media empire, to summon him and his executive son James to explain themselves last year.
James Murdoch took charge of News International, the British newspaper arm of News Corp, only once the hacking had stopped but has been criticized for failing to stem the problem.
The scandal has already prompted the resignations of two top police officials, who resigned over the handling of initial investigations into media malpractice; of Rebekah Brooks, the chief executive of Murdoch's London papers; and of Andy Coulson, a former Murdoch editor who became Prime Minister David Cameron's media adviser.

We may never know what made the purple squirrel of Jersey Shore purple, but experts don't doubt that it really was a squirrel of a different color.
"It's not typical, but it's not impossible," said Harold Cole, a warden with the Pennsylvania Game Commission who investigated the case.
Percy Emert, a resident of the town in central Pennsylvania, said he and his wife caught the squirrel on Sunday in a trap, using peanuts as bait.
"At first I thought somebody around here was playing tricks," he said. The family took pictures of the animal in its cage and posted them on Facebook. Then, on Tuesday, they set the squirrel free.

The only problem is that beyond the Emerts and their friends, no one actually saw the squirrel or was able to study it. The family did hang onto some of the fur that was left behind in the cage, along with some tail trimmings ? and they gave those samples to Cole when he was called to the scene.
Cole said the hairs could be passed along to a lab for an analysis, but the game commission itself won't be pursuing the case any further. As purple as it is, the squirrel doesn't appear to pose a hazard or be suffering from disease.
"The squirrel looks healthy in the picture there, except that he doesn't want to be in that cage," he said.

The Pennsylvania purple squirrel wasn't happy about being kept in a cage.
Cole also doesn't think the Emerts dyed the critter, which would be illegal. But he wouldn't rule out the possibility that someone else may have colored the squirrel previously to keep track of it. In fact, there are several possible explanations for the purpleness.
One is that the squirrel?picked up a purple?stain in the course of its perambulations. In 2008, a purple squirrel was sighted near a school in England, and experts suggested that the animal got into some discarded containers of printer ink toner. AccuWeather meteorologist Henry Margusity joked that the Pennsylvania squirrel "could have been looking for somewhere warm and fallen into a Port-a-Potty or something similar."
Cole said it's also possible that the squirrel ingested something that lent a purple tinge to the fur ? maybe the local pokeberries, maybe an industrial compound, maybe even a food containing purple pigment. The game warden pointed to the example of flamingos, which get their pink or orange color from the food they eat.
Unless the purple squirrel makes a reappearance and gets a scientific going-over, the case will remain up for debate, much like the fabled Minnesota sighting of 1997. In the meantime, Harold Cole and Percy Emert are continuing to field phone calls and press inquiries about the mystery ? so much so that Emert's wife, Connie, is sorry that the poor critter was caught in the first place.
"She just wishes we let it go," Percy Emert said.
